The newest data confirms once again that the Roanoke Region of Virginia offers a comparably low cost of living -- second lowest metro in the Commonwealth and 7.4% lower than the national average. The Roanoke Region's cost of living index value is 92.6 compared to the national average of 100, according to the Council for Community and Economic Research's Cost of Living Index for the second quarter 2011. The Roanoke Region's costs are lower than nearly 65% of metros across the country.
The region's cost advantages are strong across the board but are particularly strong in terms of food prices, housing costs, and transportation costs.
