If you live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA and you are looking for a four legged, furry roommate, this weekend is a great time to do it. On Tuesday, June 11, the Roanoke Valley SPCA's Adoption and Education Center will join with animal shelters and municipal pounds throughout the country in an effort to end the euthanasia of healthy, treatable animals in a campaign called "Just One Day."
The Regional Center for Animal Control & Protection (RCACP), municipal pound for Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Botetourt County, and the Town of Vinton, have all taken a pledge to be no-kill on that day. On that day, the RCACP will extend hours of operation to 7 p.m. for the public to meet animals that are eligible for adoption. Rescue groups from the area, including the RVSPCA, will be onsite to highlight their organizations and facilitate adoptions of available animals currently housed at the municipal pound.
Are you interested in adopting a pet? The RVSPCA will have expanded adoption hours and will waive the adoption fees on pets adopted from the RCACP, with prepaid spay/neuter through Mountain View Humane, low cost spay/neuter clinic.
June is "Adopt a Shelter Cat Month" and the RVSPCA is waiving adoption fees on all cats over 6 months of age through the entire month. The Adoption & Education Center will be open for adoptions on June 11 from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Waived fee applies to the cats at the Adoption & Education Center and to those housed at the Valley View PetSmart with a donation of a large bag of dry pet food to support the PET (Pets Eat Too) Program.
