Another reason you may want to live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA is the beer! Three years ago, there were just five craft breweries within an hour's driving distance of Roanoke.
With Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers expected to open in Downtown Roanoke within the next few months, twelve craft breweries will call the Roanoke Valley or the surrounding regions home.
The new companies add jobs, funnel extra money into the local economy, and attract craft brew fanatics to the area.
Some local companies, like Parkway Brewing Company, have had success in the area. Owner Keno Snyder says his company is currently expanding its brewing capabilities to meet demand.
He also predicts the industry growth in the region will continue. The Roanoke Regional Partnership, which aims to bring new companies to the area, is also hoping more craft brewers will choose this area to open their business.
That's why the organization has been actively marketing to craft breweries around the nation. Ann Blair Miller, Director of Project Management, says the organization is very excited about the local industry growth
She says, "The craft brewers that are choosing the Roanoke region and 60 minutes beyond are very successful and we are very encouraged by that."
Miller says attracting craft breweries is one of the key focuses for the organization's food and beverage marketing efforts.
