If you live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA you can enjoy a different kind of festival this weekend. The Rockbridge Mountain Music & Dance Festival is not your usual festival. There's no contest and no fancy line-up of big-name acts. No crowds. No pressure to arrive early to get a spot because there’s plenty of room!
If you love dancing and old-time music in a mellow setting, Rockbridge is the festival for you. Those who like structure will find plenty to do, while others rarely leave the campground area, choosing to play and visit around the "neighborhood" where a laid-back, low-key air prevails.
The mountain music and dance festival returns to Buena Vista September 5-7, with a dance from 8 - 11pm with caller Old Man Kelly and the band Sugar Pie followed by a dance party from 11pm to whenever with the Ben Perdue Band.
Saturday starts up at noon - 5pm with banjo, bass, guitar, fiddle, and flatfoot workshops and an open stage, followed by mini-concerts from 7 - 8 pm by Sugar Pie and The Georgia Crackers. Then from 8 - 11pm, dance to caller Beth Molaro with music by The Georgia Crackers followed by another dance party at 11pm with Faster Than Walking. Sunday morning, join Tina Liza Jones in our gospel sing.
