Fincastle Ringing of the Bells
For more than 150 years, the Ringing of the Bells has been a popular way to celebrate the new year. The tolling begins at a quarter to midnight with the courthouse bell, followed by the church bells ringing around the town. At midnight, “Taps” is played to commemorate the end of 2014, then courthouse bell-ringers strike the digits of the new Year: twenty-one-five. Big Lick Countdown
This year, Downtown Roanoke celebrates 2015 by “Bringing Times Square to Market Square.” The festivities include both indoor and outdoor fun, a wide variety of live music and DJs, food and beverage stations, giveaways and more. Adults, $15; kids 12-and-under, free. $50 VIP tickets include heavy appetizers throughout the evening, complimentary beverage tickets and a midnight toast. New Year’s Eve Celebration at Fairy Stone
The fourth-annual New Year’s Eve celebration kicks off with dance music by DJ Sherine Wilson in Fayerdale Hall. Complimentary refreshments and party favors will be available throughout the evening, and punch will be provided for the midnight toast. Ring in the new year at Peaks of Otter Lodge. Blacksburg-based folk-rock band, The Kind, is ringing in the new year with a special celebration at the historic Pine Tavern. The Kind’s style ranges from classic rock and jazz to bluegrass and country, though they’re sure to play some of their favorites, including Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band.
