If you live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA, this city is where you live, bank, learn, do errands...
If you placed a resolution to get fit this new year, now you have incentive, because this winter it's also going to be where you race.
Roanoke is teaming up with Mountain Junkies to hold an urban race through downtown called WazUpWiDis.
The race includes running up the stairs and through offices of the Wells Fargo Tower, going through several downtown parking garages, and making a quick stop at the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
"They almost chuckle and say you're going to do what?" said Joe Hanning, the outdoor events specialist for Roanoke City Parks and Recreation. "After they get over the shock of it they were all game."
The race is shorter than a 5K at less than 2.5 miles. But what you won't find in a 5K is the 600 stairs runners will tackle.
Hanning said that's where the name WazUpWiDis comes from. It's the way runners say "what's up with this" after running 600 stairs.
One of the flatter areas for runners will be the train yard behind the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
Hanning is hoping for 200-300 people for the February 9 race.
