Saturday is National Public Lands Day – and Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Roanoke is planning a “Roanoke Mountain Funfest” this Saturday from 10 to 2. If you live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA you can grill out, walk the trails with a guide or play games and relax with beautiful scenery.
Bring a picnic lunch with your and friends from the apartments in Roanoke, VA to enjoy orienteering and other outdoor fun at Roanoke Mountain Day on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 am to 2 pm. This used to be the Roanoke Mountain campground until budget cuts ended overnight stays. However, residents still get a lot of use from the day use area.
The Parkway Appreciation FunFest is presented by Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway‐Roanoke Valley Chapter and Muddy Squirrel in celebration of National Public Lands Day. FunFest attendees can also find out more about volunteer opportunities with Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Activities for all ages will include orienteering, guided nature hikes, old-time games, badminton, cornhole and more. Meet the Blue Ridge Parkway ranger on duty, and Grover Groundhog may make an appearance for photo opportunities.
