Virginia is hosting a Tax Free Weekend again this year. If you live in an apartment in Roanoke, VA and you have back to school shopping to do or if you are in need of other general purchases, August is the time to do it.
First full weekend of August, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, is the tax free weekend, August 3-5, 2012.
During these three days, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax. Also, retailers can choose to absorb the tax on other items during the holiday period, so you may find some additional deals.
The Virginia tax free weekend may be the perfect time to explore some of the local shops around Roanoke and make purchases from independent stores.
Sales tax rate in Virginia is 5%, so this could add up to quite a savings. After all, the sales tax plus any local sales tax, if applicable - is what you'd be saving during the sales tax holiday. Keep in mind that by using coupons or shopping the sales before and after the sales tax holiday, may offer you better or additional savings.
