Be Prepared for Warm Weather
With the warm weather upon us, we want to make sure your air conditioner is working properly. Please check your air conditioning on an upcoming warm day and let us know if you have any problems. A few tips for making your air conditioning more efficient:

  • Turn your air conditioner on early in the day and leave it set at the same temperature.
  • Please do not turn your air conditioning off while away for the day.
  • Report all air conditioning problems to the rental office or call emergency maintenance if after regular business hours so our service team can promptly take care of the problem.

Living Green is Easy
Many dish and laundry detergents are made with petroleum byproducts, a non-renewable resource. Many contain phosphates that are harmful to our oceans, or chlorine and other chemicals that are bad for your health and the environment. Switching to ecological, biodegradable, phosphate-free and chlorine-free soaps and cleaners will help keep chemicals out of our oceans, waterways and your home.

Rent v. Buy
As a financial choice by consumers, home ownership is not always what it is cracked up to be. Calculating the full after-tax cost of home ownership is complicated. Most analyses ignore important expenses that are borne by owners but not renters. When all costs are considered in an apples-to-apples comparison of the costs of owning and renting, the historical experience suggests that close to half of all home buyers would save money by renting comparable housing. One reason for this perhaps surprising fact is that many home buyers move within a few years of buying and the transaction costs of buying and selling a house are especially burdensome if they are not spread over a long period of residency. Similarly, the investment value of home ownership is often overrated. It depends on both time and place. Too many home buyers put all their investment eggs in the single basket of home ownership. Lastly, the tax advantages to owning a home are minimal. Every person who rents is already getting a standard deduction that in many cases is the same or similar to the deductions a homeowner will claim who itemizes their deductions. It's important to get the facts before making the decision to purchase!
